 John started culing in 1987 after an injury curtailed his football career.

John plays for Fossoway Curling Club (mother club) and Glenfarg Curling Club, both in Loch Leven Province.   John also plays in the Perth Seniors and Kinross Seniors.

John was born in Dundee, brought up in Monifieth, educated in Arbroath and Aberdeen; and has lived in Edinburgh and Dunfermline, before settling in Glenfarg where he has lived for the past 12 years.
